Description

Embark on a unique adventure that will take you outside the resorts to discover authentic Dominican rural life. This safari in a safari-style truck or minivan with large windows will take you through dirt roads, plantations, and local communities where you can experience true Dominican culture.

The tour includes visits to sugar cane, coffee, cocoa, and rice plantations (depending on season), where you will learn about the cultivation process and can taste local products such as coffee, cocoa, chocolate, seasonal fruits, and mamajuana. You will also visit a typical Dominican house where you will learn about rural life, the garden, animals, and traditional cooking.

A special stop includes a visit to Higüey, where you can see the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia, stroll through the central streets, and visit the typical market/grocery store. Additionally, you will visit a tobacco workshop to see a demonstration of cigar making.

The tour culminates with a typical Dominican buffet lunch at a ranch or farm, followed by a stop at a river (Anamuya or similar) with free time to swim, rest, and take photos.

Is the 4x4 truck safari safe? +
Yes, it is safe. The trucks are in excellent condition and the drivers are experienced. The roads are dirt but not dangerous. The truck has comfortable seats and sun protection.
What is the difference between Full Day and Half Day? +
The Full Day (8-9 hours) includes all stops: plantations, Dominican house, Higüey Basilica, tobacco workshop, complete buffet lunch and river swimming. The Half Day (4-5 hours) focuses on plantations, Dominican house and brief visit to Higüey, includes snack and beverages but not full lunch or river (optional depending on operator).
What will we see at the plantations? +
You will visit sugar cane plantations (with cutting demonstration), coffee and cocoa (with process explanation and tasting), and rice depending on season. You can taste coffee, cocoa, chocolate, seasonal fruits and mamajuana.
Can I enter the Higüey Basilica? +
Yes, depending on schedule and availability, you can enter the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia. If entry is not possible, a panoramic visit outside is made. Remember to dress respectfully when entering religious temples.
Can I swim in the river? +
Yes, in the Full Day option you will have free time at the river (Anamuya or similar) to swim, rest and take photos. We recommend bringing a swimsuit and towel. The water is crystal clear and perfect for refreshing.
What does the buffet lunch include? +
The typical Dominican lunch includes rice, chicken, pork, salads, side dishes and fruits. It is served at a ranch or farm. Vegetarian options are also available with advance notice. Non-alcoholic beverages (water, soft drinks, juices) are included during lunch.
Is it suitable for children? +
Yes, the tour is suitable for the whole family. It is an excellent educational experience for children to learn about Dominican culture. However, it is not recommended for people with very limited mobility as you must get on and off the truck several times.
